Last Light

Backlit prints, LED lights, sheet aluminum, plexiglass / 4.5’ x 133’ / 2022

Created for the Glow Shenzhen light art festival in Shenzhen, China, Last Light is a reinvented sunset. Consisting of a photograph of a nearby sunset designed into a series of LED light boxes, it is installed along a glass barrier of the highest building within one of the city's urban parks. Positioned in a westward direction, it simulates the glass reflecting the last light of day. While this piece is based around the image of an actual sunset re-presented as proof that it once existed, it now reflects for us the waning light of a moment that has passed. In this way, Last Light acts as a visual memory––an after-image of the past that we can only catch in its reflection.
