In many mall or plaza parking lots, there exist curbed-in islands that surround bushes or trees. While floating in a sea of asphalt, these islands are not marginal, rather they appear to have no context at all. So unrooted, it is feasible to think that if they were light enough, you could pick them up and move them to any location. For a series of projects I did something similar to that by casting concrete rings that were installed in various locations and filled in with whatever materials were at hand.
