Models for Mountain Parks

plaster, paint, wood, flock, lichen, grip tape, digital images
installation view
2004

Miniature mountains were created based on those in China, Peru, and the Philippines for a solo exhibition at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. They function as maquettes for temporary parks to be created in US cities. Four digitally photomontaged images on the wall depict mountain parks in Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago, and LA. In the installation the models are strategically situated within a large floor grid alluding to the grid of a city. The installation is scaled in relation to the average height of a viewer so that their height to one of the miniature mountains suggests the scale that a large skyscraper would be in relation to one of the realized mountain parks.
