Tree Rings

Tree Rings was a lighting installation designed specifically for a lakeside tree on the campus of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Skowhegan, ME. Comprised of three large, illuminated rings that hung from separate branches, it emulated the appearance of lighted marquee signs and letters from the turn of the 20th century. Taking this reference out of an urban context––where they would have been used for advertising and promotion––to install them in a natural setting, these glowing shapes spoke to something more decorative and nostalgic, and possibly more spiritual.
