Last Light

Last Light was a reinvented sunset, created for the viewing platform of a library in an urban park in Shenzhen, China. It consisted of a photograph of a nearby sunset designed into a series of light boxes. Positioned in a westward direction, it simulated the glass reflecting the last light of day. The image of an actual sunset was re-presented as proof that this moment once took place. As an artwork it reflected the waning light of a moment already passed. On close viewing, its pixelation reminded the viewer of its source as a low-resolution photo. In this way, this piece acted as a visual memory––an after-image of the past that we can only catch in its reflection.
